Mustangs Host SFA Saturday Night



The Mustangs are entering this week 2-0 after defeating UNT, 65-35. SMU will be receiving votes in both the AP and coaches’ poll for the third straight week this season.

SMU has their home opener against SFA Saturday at 6 p.m. This will be the fourth time both of these teams have met up, with SMU holding the advantage 3-0. During the last three meetings, the Mustangs have outscored the Lumberjacks 141-37 including the 58-14 victory in 2017.

SFA is currently 0-2 this season after coming off a huge loss against UTSA, 24-10. Last season the Lumberjacks went 3-9, but their wins were vacated due to an NCAA infractions case.

Quarterback Shane Buechele currently leads the nation in passing yards with 711 and is third in passing TDs and fourth in total offense which is 370.

Ulysses Bentley IV also leads in totals touchdowns which is five and is 10thwith 149.50 all-purpose yards/game.

SMU has opened the season 2-0 in consecutive seasons making it the first time since the 1984 season and are hoping to open 3-0 for the first time in consecutive seasons since 1983.
